Interview training: How to look confident and authentic in front of the camera

Interview training: How to look confident and authentic in front of the camera

Your first interview is coming up.
The camera is running.

And suddenly there is this feeling:
What if I look funny?
What if I get tangled up?
What if I don't get to the point?

The good news:
Interviews are not a stressful moment.
They are a communication situation — no more, no less.

From over 15 years of experience with interviews, statements and shooting situations, we have collected five key tips that help you with thatto appear calmly, clearly and credibly in front of the camera.

1. Mindset: An interview is not a risk

Nothing bad is happening in front of the camera.
There is no such thing as “passing” or “failing.”

An interview isn't proof of your competence—it's an opportunity to deliver value.
Not trying to be perfect helps you do that more than any script.

Helpful thoughts:

  • Done is better than perfect
  • That is not fear, that is energy
  • The camera team works for you, not against you

Especially when you are responsible, the following applies:
Interviews create closeness, trust and credibility — both internally and externally.

2. Attitude and language determine impact

Your posture directly influences your voice and presence.
When you slouch, so does your voice.

That's what matters:

  • Sit upright, use only the front half of the seat
  • calm facial expressions and gestures, no rocking or plucking
  • Speak slowly, take breaks consciously
  • short, clear sentences instead of technical whispers

Formulating positively helps enormously:
“We are strongly positioned in XY” appears more confident than
“We don't have any issues with XY.”

3. Clarity beats perfection

Many try to memorize answers.
This creates pressure — and rarely sounds natural.

Better:

  • Prepare key points — statements that you can fish your way around
  • Stop talking thoughts
  • Consciously emphasize at the end of a sentence (also helps with editing)

No problem with slippage.
Stop briefly, exhale, smile, start again — done.

Persuasion doesn't mean to be perfect.
But clearly.

4. On set: keep calm, maintain presence

A few simple things help you tremendously:

  • slight head tilt, chin line visible
  • For people who wear glasses: light slightly from above or from the side, glasses slightly slanted
  • Keep an eye on the conversation, don't look off

A simple framework for every answer:
Calm down.
Breathe
Think.
Respond.
smile.

When you give yourself time, you look confident.

5. Small tricks with big effects

A few proven details from practice:

  • hold something in your hand to reduce nervousness
  • Briefly repeat the question in the answer — this makes the editing easier
  • Make figures tangible:
“We grew by 18% — that is twice as much as the industry average. ”
  • Lean forward in a targeted manner to reinforce statements
  • Classify honestly, even if you don't have a perfect answer

Important: Conclude thoughts clearly — instead of losing yourself.

Note

Persuasion doesn't mean being perfect — but genuine, calm and clear.
